Meet Dr. Cheryl D. Watson-Lowry
Dr. Cheryl D. Watson-Lowry is a second generation dentist, born in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry in 1987, she joined her father, Dr. Charles E. Watson, in private practice at its current location, changing the practice to, Watson and Watson Dental. The practice has served the community for over 60 year.
Dr. Watson-Lowry was the 154th President of the Chicago Dental Society having served on the Board as a Director from 2000-2002 and as an officer from 2015-2019. The Chicago Dental Society (CDS) is the largest Component of the American Dental Association with over 4,200 member dentists from Cook, Lake and DuPage Counties. CDS hosts one of the largest dental meetings in the world each year at McCormick Place for nearly 30,000 dental professionals from around the world.
Dr. Watson-Lowry has also served as President of the Local School Council for Walter Payton High School, President of the Lincoln Dental Society, the Kenwood-Hyde Park Dental Society, as a Trustee on the Illinois State Dental Society Board as a Delegate to the ADA House of Delegates and on the Council for Access and Prevention and the Council of Government Affairs for the ADA.
In May of 2017, Dr. Watson-Lowry testified before Congress in support of the Action for Dental Health bill (ADH) which was signed into law in 2019 and for which she received the ADA President’s Citation. The ADH bill continues to increase access to dental care for many in the underserved community throughout the United States.
Dr. Watson-Lowry is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International.
Dr Watson-Lowry also is passionate about community activism. Along with her husband, they founded the anti-violence group “TITO”, The It’s Time Organization, after Hadiya Pendleton was shot near their home. TITO’s focus was to expose at risk young people to opportunities that would change their lives for the better.
Dr. Watson-Lowry lives in Chicago with her husband of 34 years, Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry. They have 3 children.
